In 2019 NHS London commissioned us to run an awareness project which will provide healthcare professionals with resources for treating potential survivors of sexual abuse, giving them the tools and knowledge to confidently engage with and best support these patients and people under their care.We are collaborating with the NHS, our London Survivors Forum, and our member agencies to use our combined reach and experience in this field to put together our programme.Following positive feedback from two pilot workshops that took place in 2019, we held two focus groups with NHS colleagues in January 2021 to learn more about how we can effectively promote this campaign, from the perspective of NHS practitioners. We heard that sexual abuse remains a taboo among many healthcare professionals and they often lack confidence when dealing with situations with survivors, feeling that they may provide an inadequate response. Through our project, we want to help change this.
