TRUSTEES WANTED FOR SEREN COUNSELLING PROJECT IN WEST WALES
Seren Counselling Project is a registered charity, founded some 12 years ago by a group of independent counsellors, NHS, and Social Services workers who were all neighbours and friends in a close mountain community , strongly linked to nearby University of Wales, Lampeter College and all concerned about the pervasive and destructive experiences of early childhood sexual abuse for so many of their clients.
A model of counseling strategies and training was being devised by one member of this group, and has been the basis of Seren's work since. This early community grounding has been one of the great strengths of the charity that we hope will be of real interest to anyone who might be considering trusteeship. We give free training to counsellors who have completed their diploma or degree and in return, they take on one or two clients for 12 sessions. We also run training workshops and 2-day conferences. We cover the 3 counties that were Dyfed, ie Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion and have offices in the small town of Newcastle Emlyn near Cardigan.
The Seren Counselling Project needs new trustees who can bring experience of small charities, IT skills, knowledge of charity governance issues, funding, fundraising, knowledge of the local community - any of these - and just willingness to help a small organization be effective in a still hidden area of deeply damaging human experience.
Trustees will be expected to attend committee meetings every 6 weeks. In addition they should be prepared to set aside time for induction. Trustees are not remunerated but necessary, out-of-pocket expenses are reimbursed.
